Additional Information
Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer (after skin cancer) in America, where 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with the disease. The prevalence of prostate cancer varies by age, race, family history/genetics, and geographic location. The National Cancer Institute estimated that nearly 200,000 men in the U.S. were diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2009, and it is estimated that more than 2 million men in this country are currently living with this disease.
Over the past decade, a greater awareness of the factors involved in prostate cancer, as well as early detection has led to increased survival of men afflicted with the disease. Recent research has shown that diet modification, increased exercise, and a promoting a healthy lifestyle may decrease the chances of development, reduce the likelihood of recurrence, and/or slow the progression of prostate cancer.
Adult and Pediatric Urology and Team Nebraska have partnered to raise awareness by providing education and support to the local community, as well as promoting a healthy and active lifestyle for the entire family. Please join us in our efforts this Father’s Day by participating in our First Annual Prostate Run.
