Brief Description

This is an off road scavenger hunt that pays tribute to our Armed Forces. The course is along the beautiful and scenic Noland Trail and Mariners Museum grounds in Newport News, VA. Individuals and teams of two will compete to locate the 5 Armed Services flags strategically placed off the main course. Participants will receive a course map with clues to each flag’s location along the course. Participants and teams must find all five flags to qualify and the fastest times win.

Packet Pick-Up/Race Day Registration

Saturday, September 8 7:00-8:15am at Mariners Museum. Race maps with flag locations will be handed out at the pre-race briefing held at 8:15am. Registration includes race goodie bag at packet pick-up, finisher medal, technical shirt, food, beverage and guaranteed fun!

Race Day

Maps will be handed out at 8:15am at the pre-race briefing. There will be a mass start at 8:30am. Participants will have a few minutes to review the map and develop a strategy. Flags may be collected in any order. Individuals or teams that reach the finish line with all their flags with the fastest time wins.

Awards

Awards will be presented to the top three two person teams, top three male and female individuals as well as top three individual male and females in the following age groups. 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+

Additional Information

The course will be approximately 5 miles or maybe longer depending on your orienteering ability. There is no event like this in Hampton Roads, and it is sure to draw participates from the seven cities and beyond. This event is open to the public and will also feature a kids’ scavenger hunt course, family entertainment and a post-race party. A portion of the event proceeds will benefit the USO of Hampton Roads and Central Virginia.
