Brief Description

The Howling Mile is a 1 Nautical (1.2 mile) owner & dog race / walk on the Newburyport Rail Trail. The event includes a 10 AM walk to the starting line at the Train Station. There will be a staggered dog /owner start between 10:15 and 10:30; this will alleviate congestion at the start and along the trail. . The race is “chipped timed”. The dog’s “race time” is the elapsed time from the starting mat to the finish mat. The event is followed by an award ceremony with prizes and raffles.

Dog must be licensed:

All dogs must be licensed & wear a dog collar with tag. Dogs must be kept on a leash (max 6 ft) except in the designated leash-free area. Any dog considered unfit or dangerous may be withdrawn from the event by Howling Mile Staff.
