Brief Description

Join the Alpha Delta Pi chapter at MTSU for a unique triathlon challenge! This is an event unlike any other in the area and is a smaller version of a triathlon. It includes a 300 meter swim, a 10 mile bike ride, and a 5K run (3.14 mile "Pi run" to be exact!). This event is perfect for seasoned athletes who want to train for an upcoming triathlon OR for people who have never done one and want the personal challenge of completing their first triathlon. Beginners encouraged!

Chip Timing

Like last year, our chip timing and bike racks will be provided by Race Day Events.

Student Discount Price

If you are a student you may register under the Student Discount Price of $30. You MUST be a college student with a valid ID. Your University ID must be presented the day of the race or you will be charged the full amount. The day of price for students will be $40 so make sure to register before the Early Bird cut off!

Packet Pickup

We will be having a pre-race packet pick-up on Saturday, March 31st from 4:30 pm- 6:30 pm. It will be held in the lobby of the MTSU Rec Center. Enter through the main doors of the Rec Center and our table will be set up in the middle of the lobby. You can still pick up your packet on the morning of the race if you are unable to attend pre-packet pick-up.

Transition Area

One transition area; will be blocked off for participants only. This year, someone will be at the entrance making sure that only participants enter the transition area (more security for bikes, etc.).

Swim Details

The swim is 300 meters, which consists of 12 lanes in the MTSU indoor pool. Participants will be marked with their race number on their arm. It will be a “snake swim” with participants starting at different times. The first participant will enter the water promptly at 8:00 am with the next participant following 10 seconds later and will continue with 10 seconds between each start. Participants need to provide their own swim caps, if desired. Lanes are wide enough to pass.

Bike Details

The bike ride is approximately 10 miles long, with the ride beginning and ending on MTSU’s campus. Bike helmets must be worn at all times when on mounting, dismounting, and riding the bike. Participants must provide their own helmet and required. There will be police support in place for two hours. After that participants can finish the race, but must do so at their own risk and realize they no longer have race support.

Run Details

The run will be 3.14 miles. All of the race will take place on MTSU’s campus. Participants will drop off their bikes in the transition area and then proceed to the running course. Runners will head down Blue Raider Drive towards Old Main Circle and complete the campus course. They will end up back where they started at the Rec Center.

Awards and Prizes

Awards will be given to the top male and female finishers overall, top male and female in the individual age divisions AND the top male and female finishers in the team division. There will also be additional categories and prizes given. Door prizes will also be given and all participants are eligible.

Dri-Fit T-Shirts

T-shirts will be guaranteed to all pre-registered participants. Shirts will be first come, first serve to those who sign up the day of. You will NOT be able to switch t-shirt sizes the day of the event, so make sure you choose the correct size.

Rules and Regulations of Race

You must have your helmet on and strapped before mounting your bike. You must have your race number pinned on and visible. Do not follow the biker in front of you too closely. Be at least 2 bike lengths behind them. It’s dangerous and a position violation, called drafting. Ride your bike as far to the right side of the lane as possible. Pass only on the left. Violation of this rule is blocking. Let the faster riders going for the age group awards go through.

Additional Information

This is the 4th annual Alpha Delta Pi-athlon! And you won't want to miss out on this improved race. It is specifically catered to beginners who want to brag that they have completed their first triathlon. Early registration is now open and ends Wednesday, March 28th at 11:59 p.m. All registration is on-line at www.active.com , keyword Pi-athlon. If you think doing all 3 events will be too much of a challenge, we invite you to enter under our team division. It is a flat fee of $60 online or $75 the day of. Teams of comprised of 3 people (one person for each event) and must enter under a team name. The teams may be comprised of both male and female participants. Day of registration begins at 6:30 a.m. on April 1st. The indoor swim is easier for beginners. Both the biking and running courses are flat and fast and excellent for 1st time triathletes or those wanting to improve their time. Proceeds to benefit the Ronald McDonald House and Alpha Delta Pi's Scholarship program.
