Brief Description

Marathon & Half Marathon start at 7am on M Street. Out and back, flat and fast course finishes on M St. Course open 7 hours, allowing adequate time for first-time marathoners. (Boston qualifier). Walkers and first- timers are especially encouraged to participate in the 13.1 mile event. 5k: Loop begins at 7:20 am, starting on M St., following marathon course. Runners then turn onto the Virginia Corridor winding back to M St. to the finish. Go to: www.modestomarathon.com

Registration Fees, Register early!

$75 Full Marathon, $85 after Feb. 18 / $55 Half Marathon, $65 after Feb. 18 / $20 5k, $25 after Feb. 18. Commemorative large insulated totes to the first 2000 to register for the Full and Half marathons. Registration at Expo on March 17, 2011, registration fees are Full Marathon $100 /Half Marathon $75 / 5k $30. No race day registration for Full and Half marathons.

Packet Pickup & Expo

Avoid last minute confusion by picking up your race packet on Saturday! Pre-race registration and packet pick up will be at the Modesto Convention Center, Center Plaza, 1150 Ninth St., Modesto, CA, 95354, Saturday March 17, 11am to 6 pm.

Race Day

No race day registration for Marathon or Half Marathon. 5k registration & packet pick up for Marathon & Half Marathon will be on the corner of 11th and M St., in the Pikes Building, 6am to 7 am. Race day registration closes at 7a.m. sharp.

Directions

From the North: Take CA- 99 South toward Modesto/Fresno. Take the 132 /Maze Blvd exit toward CA-108. Turn left on CA-132/L St. Continue down L St. to the Doubletree Hotel. From the South: Take CA-99 North toward Modesto. Take exit CA-132/Central Modesto. Turn slight left onto 6th St. Turn right onto L St. Continue on L St. to Doubletree Hotel.

Parking

$1 per hour, 6 am to 6 pm. $5 per vehicle, 6 pm to 6 am. Modesto Center Plaza parking: Corner of 11th & L, entrance on L St. City of Modesto parking: Corner of 11th and K, entrance on K. Another garage on 9th St, entrance on 9th St. R.V. parking, 11th and L St., entrance on L St. $20 per day , bus $30 per day.

Downtown DoubleTree Hotel, 1150 Ninth St., Modesto, CA 95354, (209) 526-6000. Special Marathon room rates available for $89 per night + tax. Parking: Self parking adjacent to hotel, $6; valet parking, $12.

Pre -race Dinner & Special Guest Speaker

A pre-race dinner will be held at the Modesto Convention Center, 1150 Ninth St., Modesto, CA, on Saturday, March 17, 2011, at 6 pm. Guest speaker Dick Beardsley will be featured at the buffet style dinner. $20 per person. Enter the race registration page and register for the dinner or go to www.modestomarathon.com to download a race entry form that includes the dinner option and mail in your reservations. Deadline: March 11.

Aid Stations

Water, electrolyte drinks and port-a-potties will be approproximately every 2 miles along the course. First aid at every aid station.

Win a trip to Boston

Sign up at Marathon Expo to be eligible to win a trip to the Boston Marathon. Anyone who qualifies for the Boston Marathon at the Surgical Artistry Modesto Marathon who has not previously qualified for the Boston Marathon can sign up at the Marathon Expo to be entered into a drawing. Winner will receive $1,000 toward air fare and Boston race entry fee. It is up to the winner to make all arrangements. Winner will be chosen after times are verified and official. Sign up at the Expo.

Awards Marathon & Half Marathon

Medals to all Marathon and Half Marathon finishers. Top 3 male and female overall participants in each race will receive cash awards. $250 for 1st place, $100 2nd place, $50 3rd place. Age division awards will be given to the top 3 males and females in each age division. 5 year age divisions, starting 19-under, 20-24, 25-29 , etc., to 80+.

Awards 5k

5k awards: Top 3 males and females in each age division. 5 year age groups: 5-under, 6-10, 11-15, 16-19, 20-24, etc., to 80+ Overall male & female award.

Athena & Clydesdale Division

Awards to the top 3 in each division. Female weight 160+, Male Weight 200+, Weigh in and check in at Expo on Saturday.

Mission Statement

The Modesto Marathon was founded to serve the local community by providing quality marathon, half marathon and 5K running events while promoting physical fitness and a healthy life-style. Proceeds will benefit the Teens Run Modesto program, which challenges area youth, especially those at-risk, to experience the benefits of goal-setting, character development, adult mentoring and improved physical fitness through a structured training program and completing the Modesto Marathon.

Teens Run Modesto

"At risk" students are the program’s target group. We encourage all students regardless of ethnicity or socioeconomic status to participate in the benefits of completing the program. No cost to students. ShadowChase Running Club is using the successful Students Run LA program as a guide. We have repeated these success stories in Modesto.
