Race Proceeds

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Scott Rigsby Foundation, a nonprofit organization that exists to inspire and enable physically challenged individuals and athletes.

About Scott

Scott Rigsby was 18 years old when he was hit by by a passing 18 wheeler, throwing him underneath a 3 ton attached trailer and dragging him 300 feet. His back suffered 3rd degree burns, his right leg was severed off and and his left leg hung barely intact. After 26 surgeries, additional amputation, depression, fear, and uncertainly, Scott Rigsby turned his life around. 15 years after his accident, Scott became the 1st double amputee in the world to finish the Hawaiian Ironman.

ABOUT THE RACE

The run courses are through the rolling hills of Robin Ridge subdivision and measured to USATF specifications. The 375 yd. swim is a back and forth 8 lane snake pool swim. Relay teams of two to three people will be allowed. The Waterkid is two quick jaunts around the facilities with a pool two link swim (50yd). A two-mile run only and a kids run (no swim) is also offered. This is an event for all with an emphasis on fun; however, the course will challenge you, especially in the August heat.

POST RACE ACTIVITIES & WELLNESS FAIR

A Wellness Fair & food, drink, and various family activities will be provided immediately after the races.

Do the Unthinkable Cookout

Scott will share his incredible story on Saturday, August 7th at Burkwood at 6 p.m. (Presented by Sportable, a nonprofit organization focused on providing recreation & sports opportunities for individuals with physical disabilities in the Richmond area (www.sportable.org) & TRIgirl/TRIkid/TRIquest Training. Scott will also speak at 3 services at New Hanover Presbyterian Church on Sunday.

PRIZES/AWARDS by 3Sports & CraftMaster Homes

The top three overall male and female finishers will receive prizes/awards. Age group winners as well as Clydesdales and Athenas will also receive awards. Additionally, random prizes will be handed out.

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO PARENTS – PLEASE READ

We will make every effort to accommodate your child and to make sure that he/she has a great time. We will have multiple volunteers including lifeguards to ensure a safe, positive, and fun racing environment. Once the race is started, however, no parents will be allowed onto the race course for any reason. This is for the safety, enjoyment, and fairness to all child participants. Failure to abide by this restriction may result in disqualification.

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO PARENTS – PLEASE READ

Parents are highly encouraged to register their children early. We try to award each child participant with a trophy. Pre-registering helps ensure that no child goes home empty handed.

PACKET/T-SHIRT PICK UP

T-shirt, race number, and packet pick up will be from 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM. There will be pre-race pick up on Thursday, August 5th, 5:00 to 7:00. We will make every effort to issue all participants T-shirts; however, only pre-registered participants are guaranteed T-shirts.

New Hanover Church Services

Scott will also speak at 3 services at New Hanover Presbyterian Church (9 a.m., 10:10 a.m., 11:15 a.m.) on Sunday, August 8th.
