TXU Energy 26.2 MILE MARATHON Start Time 6:45 a.m.

The Marathon starts and finishes at the new McAllen Convention Center at Ware Rd and Expressway 83.  The new Boston Marathon qualifier course, TX10003WG, circles the center and heads East to tour the historic downtown entertainment district and then north on beautiful Main St. for a few bike path miles on Bicentennial then North by Northwest to a newer part of the city and returns to the convention center for the party. Must be 16 years of age to enter.

Awards will be given to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers in five year age groups.  Entrants receive a race T-shirt and all finishers will also receive a festive sombrero, medal and commemorative microfiber shirt. The course will be open for 7 hours. NO EXCEPTIONS!  Participants must pick up their packets at the expo. NO EXCEPTIONS!

TXU Energy MARATHON RELAY (Each of the 5 members runs a portion of the course) Start Time 6:45 a.m.

Five person teams can run or walk in this festive relay marathon. Teams will run the distance and compete in 14 categories for unique awards in each division and every participant will receive a free race t-shirt and finishers coaster. Form your team today!  The course will be open for 7 hours. NO EXCEPTIONS!  Participants must pick up their packets at the expo. NO EXCEPTIONS!

First Leg – 5.0 Miles Starting at 6:45 AM with the full Marathon

The start is at the East side of the pool at the McAllen Convention Center on Ware Rd & Expressway 83. Course runs Northwest around the pool, South on the West lane of Convention Center Blvd and West on the North side of Ithaca and turns North, staying on the East most lane of Ware Rd. and turns East on Erie.  The course continues East on Erie which curves into Galveston, South on the West side of 29th Street and West on Ithaca to the East lane of Convention Center Blvd. The course turns South to the road just before the frontage road and East to the East side of 29th St and turns North.  At Galveston the course turns East to 27th Street and North to Bus 83.  Running East on the South side of Bus 83 the course turns South at 17th Street, East at Fresno St to Main and North to Ash St and Archer Park for the 1st exchange.   

The 1st exchange point is at Archer Park.

Second Leg – 4.8 Miles
The route continues North on Main Street to the North side of Tamarack and West to the Bicentennial Bike Path, turns North on the path to a turn around near Nolana Street. Returning to Tamarack the course turns West, crossing Bicentennial, and jogs Southwest and continues West on Sycamore to 24th St and South.  At Quince it run ½ block to 24-1/2 and South to Pecan AVE.  (NOT Pecan BLVD).  The course runs Southwest on Pecan Ave to 27th and North to Lincoln Middle  School and the 2nd exchange.

The 2nd exchange point is at Lincoln Middle School on 27th St.

Third Leg – 5.2 Miles
The route continues North on 27th St. and West on Quince crossing to the West side of 29th St and North.  At the North end of McAuliffe Elementary School Park the course turns West and follows the bike path to the West end and then South to Daffodil and West to 34th St.  Proceeds North on 34th St and crosses to the North side of Nolana and East back to 29th St.  The course continues North to Trenton and West to the Fossum School entrance road that is East of Ware Road and South for the 3rd exchange.

The 3rd exchange is on the school road at Fossum Middle School.

Forth Leg – 5.1 Miles
The route continues to circle the school yard to Ware Rd and South staying on the East side to Xenops and East to 29th St.  The course turns South on 29th St to Nolana and West on the North side of the street to 34th and crosses Nolana and continues South to Daffodil and East to the West entrance of McAuliffe Elementary School Park and North and then East to 29th St.  The course turns South staying on the West side of the road to Quince and East to 27th and South to 4th exchange at Lincoln Middle School.

The 4th exchange point is at Lincoln Middle School on 27th St.

This is the same location as the 2nd exchange but later and in the opposite direction.

Fifth Leg – 6.1 Miles
Continuing South on 27th St the course returns to Pecan AVE and Northeast to 24-1/2 St and North to Quince.  It turns East to 24th St and North to Sycamore and East on the North side of Tamarack to Main St.  It does NOT repeat the Bicentennial bike path. At Main St it turns South to the South side of Bus 83.  The course turns West to 17th St and South to Houston and West. The course jogs Northwest at 23rd St to Galveston and West to the East side of 29th St.  It turns South to the road just before the frontage road and West to the West lane of Convention Center Blvd and North to the pool loop and the Finish line.

Michelob Ultra Individual Half Marathon Event - 6:45 AM Start with the full Marathon
Half the distance, but all the fun in this USAT&F certified 13.1 mile course.  Uses the same downtown course as the Marathon but with a turn around on the Bicentennial Bike Path.  Awards will be given to 1st. 2nd and 3rd place finishers in two year age groups to 19 and five year age groups to 70+.  Entrants receive a race T-shirt and all finishers receive a microfiber finishers cap.  Participants must pick up their packets at the expo. NO EXCEPTIONS!

5K Fiesta Fitness Run/Walk – 7:30 AM Start

Sponsored by South Texas Vo-Tech.  All fitness level have a chance to participate in this new course circling the Convention Center finishing down the boulevard.  Everyone will receive a free T-shirt and awards will be given to the overall male and female finishers in the run division.  Participants must pick up their packets at the expo. NO EXCEPTIONS!

 

1 Mile Kids Fun Run – Age group waves - Starting at 10:00 AM

A Fun filled race from start to finish for young runners and walkers in grades K thru 6th.  The first 500 participants to register will receive a free race T-shirt. Awards will be given to top 3 boys and girls in each age group (ages 5-6, 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12). All participants will receive a goody bag, and a finishers ribbon.

Schools can Compete!  Help your school compete for the “Most Active School” award.  The school with the most participants will be eligible to win a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place trophy.  Entries must be turned in by school representatives by 11/19/10.  Students can win door prizes on race day.  Must be present to win.

 

FREE HEALTH & FITNESS EXPO Dec. 11, 2009, 12 - 6pm. Open to the public!  At The McAllen Convention Center
 
Featuring the latest in running shoes, sports apparel, health and nutrition products. Whether someone is a fitness fanatic, casual runner, or anything in between, this expo offers a chance for everyone to be part of the event. Participants must pick up their packets at the expo. NO EXCEPTIONS!

THE FINISHERS FIESTA! - Start Time 10:00 am

The Fiesta Marathon will finish with a bang outside the McAllen Convention Center. A party featuring a live concert with the Renaissance Rockers with free food for race participants.  Entertainment and fun for kids of all ages. Family and friends are also welcomed to join the finishers for this grand celebration.

Easiest parking:
Enter from the West side on Ware Road at Houston or Galveston. 

Except for a few minutes at the start of the Marathon and 5K, these accesses will always be open. Do not use the South entrance at Convention Center Boulevard as the North portion will be closed for the duration of the event. There will also be closures from the East at Ithaca between 29th St and Ware Rd and also on Galveston from 29th St to 33rd St.

Before 6:30 Galveston from 29th St to 33rd St will be open to the Northeast Parking Lot.  To exit during the events, drive around the North side of the Convention Center using the parking lot road to Houston.

Do not Park on the East side of Convention Blvd in the lots between Copper Canyon and Barnes & Noble.
