Brief Description

The Manassas City Police Association is hosting the tenth annual 5k race in honor of Sgt John D. Conner III who was killed in the line of duty on July 24, 1988. The event features a certified course through the Manassas neighborhoods, ChronoTrack timing, good competition, and fun for the entire community.

Charity Beneficiary

The race is in honor of Sgt John D Conner III who was killed in the line of duty on July 24, 1988. He was a husband and a father of four. Through this tragic event something evolved. Virginia legislation was passed for the siblings of slain law enforcement officers to attend a Virginia college at no cost to the family. Funds raised during this event benefit the children of our department personnel in the form of scholarship awards. The MCPA has awarded over $50,000 in scholarships so far.

ChronoTrack Timing and Scoring

Transponder timing operated by Capital Running Company will be used to score the 5K race. The system uses a computer "tag" which must be tied to each runners' shoelaces and records the exact time a runner crosses the starting line and the finish line, resulting in a net time for each runner. The D-tag is disposable and is initiailly attached to your bib number. Overall awards will be based upon clock time and age group awards will be based upon transponder times.
