Brief Description

CELEBRATE THE 11th ANNUAL THE SILVER COMET HALF MARATHON!!! REGISTER NOW - We sold out in September last year! Remember why you run in the first place - this fun, beautiful, flat race is top notch! The course run's out & back on the Silver Comet-Atlanta's hottest running trail. Silver Comet Races are fully self supporting & give financial support to educational environmental programs for children in the surrounding community. Perfect for first time walkers & runners.

START LOCATION !!

Please note that the race start is at 7:30am at the MABLE HOUSE ART CENTER & AMPHITHEATRE. The Mable House is located exactly ½ mile past the Kroger on Floyd Road (heading away / South from the Silver Comet Trail) – 5239 Floyd Road, Mableton GA 30126

Fun Run Fees

2 Mile Fun Run: $15 thru 4/1/11, $20 by 9/1/11, $25 9/1/11 thru Race Day - The Run4Life Run is $4.00 for children participating!

Race Packet Pick Up

Race number and timing chip pick-up starts at 6:00 am RACE DAY at race start!!

Registration

Race Day registration (if available) is $85. (WE SOLD OUT IN SEPT in 2009) We hope you will register early to avoid additional fees!!! In-store registration is available at both locations of the Big Peach Running company YOU MAY NOT PICK UP RACE NUMBERS AT THE BIG PEACH STORES - Race numbers are not mailed.

Directions

Take I-285 W on the top end perimeter, exit Atlanta Road. Turn northwest heading outside the perimeter. Go two stoplights & turn left onto the four lane Cummberland Parkway, which turns into the East-West Connector. Drive ~6 miles and turn left onto Floyd Rd. Parking is available at Floyd Middle School on the left ~2 miles down Floyd Rd. The Mable House is .8 miles past the parking area on the left. Drive time from I-285/Atlanta Rd is approximately 10-15 minutes.

Parking & Shuttles

Parking is at the Mable House or Floyd Middle School (closer to the finish). Note all other parking restrictions or you could be towed. If you park at the Middle School, (or elsewhere) you must walk to the start. Free shuttles will take fun runners & spectators finish line area after the race start. ABSOLUTELY NO PARKING AT THE SILVER COMET DEPOT TRAIL HEAD!!!!! Cars will be towed. CCT buses will take everyone back to Floyd Middle School & the Mable House after the race.

Race Course

The USAT&F certified course starts at the Mable House Art Center - 7:45am sharp. Heads North on Floyd Road 1.5 miles. Turns Left/West on the Silver Comet Trail at the Silver Comet Depot Trail Head. Runs out approx. 5.75 miles, turns around & finishes at the Silver Comet Depot. Please BE CAREFUL - It will be crowded. Run on the right hand side of the trail. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT RUNNERS WILL BE RETURNING ON YOUR LEFT !!! Listen for any announcements being called out along the course.

Water / Potties

Water will be located at the 2 mile mark & every 1.5 miles thereafter. Powerade available at the water stop closest to the race turnaround only. Please dispose of your cups & gel packets at/near the water stops. Please Don’t Litter the Trail. Two Pit Stop Units will be at the Industry Road crossing - these are the only ‘Pit Stops’ on the course. – Look for ‘Pink’ signs near mile 5.5 going out & 9 going back. ( Industry is the Road after Sanders crosses going out)

Finish Line!

The Finish Line Celebration will be in the lower parking at the Silver Comet Depot Trail Head. All pre-registered half marathon participants will receive a finisher medal & long sleeve race t-shirt. We will have Water, Kroger, Apples & Bananas, Atlanta Bread Company, Sweet Tomatoes. Buses will take all race finishers, volunteers, & spectators back to the parking lots at Floyd Middle School & the Mable House Art Center after the race.

Awards

Awards will be given out when we have enough finishers in to fill the categories. Plaques are given to the top three male & female finishers in five year age categories. Awards not picked up will not be mailed.

RESULTS & PHOTOS

Results will be posted at www.active.com on the Monday following the race. Photos will also be available for review & purchase.

Charity Spots Available

In 2009 we raised $2400 additional funds for our volunteer school booster clubs - These cross country and track team clubs from Campbell, South Cobb work our water stops, mile splits, start and finish lines - $100 of the charity spot fees will be donated directly to one of our charity schools to support their PE programs, Track and Cross Country teams. Please consider this option when you register!! A very exciting fundraiser for these programs.

Course Rules:

No bicycles, skates, baby strollers, headphones or dogs are allowed on the race course. Walkers and slow runners should line up in the back of the race start. Please stay to your furthest right at all times as not to block other passing participants. Please do not litter on the trail. These rules are for your safety and the safety of all race participants. Please respect the trail, the race officials and all other participants by cooperating with these race rules.

Additional Information

Start, turn-around, and finish line timing! All finishers are rewarded with an 11th annual custom medal & long sleeve technical or t-shirt. Water stops are every 1.5 miles & PowerAde is at the 2 water stops near the turn-around. Walkers are encouraged to participate; however, should be able to complete the 13.1 miles at a 16 minute mile pace or under to receive an official time. Official timing stops at 3:30:00. If you can not complete the 13.1 miles in 3:30 hours, for your safety, you should not register and may be shuttled off the course.
