Brief Description

The Sir Norman Watson Classic is named after Sir Norman Watson, the founder of the Lake Louise Ski Club and the Post Hotel. The event was founded in 1989 by Eric Correll and Lynn Wilson, of Wilson Mountain Sports, in honour of Watson.

Event Details

There will be solo and team categories available. Solo participants will complete the river section in kayaks. Teams of 5 will share each of the sperate legs. The paddle section must be completed by 2 persons in a canoe. Participants must provide their own canoes and/or kayaks. Please read the participant guide for important river safety and boat requirements.

More Info

The race begins with a 10-kilometers mountain bike ride from the Lake Louise Train Station to Deer Lodge and back. Next is a 9-kilometers run along the Bow River Loop, the Louise Creek trail and the Tramline trail back to the train station. The race continues with a 27-kilometer paddle down the Bow River to Castle Mountain. The final leg will be a 27-kilometer road bike race with a staggered start from Castle Mountain to the Lake Louise Ski Area along the Bow Valley Parkway.

Additional Insurance Fee

Team members who are not members of the Alberta Triathlon Association will be required to pay an additional $5 insurance fee. Non ATA member soloists will be required to pay an additional $20 fee.

Post Event Party

An after party will take place at the Lake Louise Recreation Centre. Beer, Pop, Smokies and Burgers will be available to enjoy around the camp fire.

Awards and draw prizing from our generous sponsors will take place at the after party.

Additional Information

This year marks the 21st annual running of the event. A large percentage of the profits generated are donated to the non-profit Lake Louise Recreation Society.
