Additional Information
Sparkling blue water. Pristine white sand beaches. Lush rainforests. All of these features and more will be seen from a runner’s-eye view during The Kaua’i Marathon, scheduled for September 4, 2011. Kaua’i’s tropical paradise will become the backdrop for this world class event, which will not only lead runners through one of the world’s most beautiful marathon courses, but will donate net proceeds to local charities dedicated to preserving the island’s natural beauty.
The course: paradise found, mile after mile
The Kaua’i Marathon begins in Poipu, the world-class resort community at the sunny southern end of the island. The
course follows the contour of the scenic coastline, offering magnificent views of the island’s picturesque beaches, rugged volcanic peaks and green tropical jungles. Runners will experience historic Koloa Town, a living reminder of the island’s rich plantation history, and cool beneath the shade of the century-old Tunnel of Trees. The course then winds through rainy Omao, on the way to Lawai before gently climbing to reveal stunning ocean views at the top of Kalaheo. The remaining few miles are a gradual descent until runners receive a rousing island welcome upon their return to Poipu Beach.
Proceeds from The Kaua’i Marathon will benefit local charities on the island.
The Kaua’i Marathon is the brainchild of Jeff Sacchini, an avid runner and businessman who is passionate about Kaua’i and its community.
“My vision for this race is to create a world class event that showcases the purity and excitement of athletic competition as well as the
incredible natural beauty of Kaua’i,” Sacchini said. “And since the race raises money for charity, it’s an event everyone can feel good about.”
