Brief Description

This is a fundraiser to benefit the people of Haiti due to recent tragic events. There has been a heightened need for donated new/used artificial limbs and orthopaedic braces. There have been reports of up to 70 amputations in a single day. All funds will be donated to Healing Hands for Haiti, which is a non-profit organization that donates medical equipment and organizes volunteer trips for medical persons. Their facility was destoyed by the earthquake and it's time to help rebuild!

Online Entry Fees

Register online for $20 before 6/1/10, after 6/1/10 for $25. Online registration closes on 6/10/10. All pre-registered or the first 100 5K online participants are guaranteed to receive a Race T-shirt. The 1-Mile Walk/Fun Run regsitration fee is $5 up to day of race. Kids 10 and under are FREE for the 1-Mile Fun/Run Walk.

Mail-in Entry Fees 5K

All mail-in entry fees postmarked by 6/1/10 are $20, if postmarked after 6/1/10 it is $25. Please make check out to Hope for Haiti 5K, and mail to PO Box 141 Kennett Square PA 19348.

Race-day Registration

Register on race-day, Saturday June 12th, between 7:00-7:45 am at Anson B. Nixon Park. Race-day registration for all 5K participants is $25. All online registered participants or the first 100 are guaranteed a race t-shirt. If you register on race-day, T-shirt availability may be limited or not available.

Course Description

The 5K trail run includes surfaces of packed clay/gravel, grass, dirt, and some pavement. This is an easy navigating course for all levels and abilities. The elevation changes are mild, with small, rolling hills, pond views, etc. The 1-mile trail walk and fun run cover similar trails as the 5K.

Kids Participating in 1-Mile Fun Run

Online registration is $5 up until day of race. All youth age 10 and under are Free, but cash donations are encouraged on race-day...look for the Kids Cash for Haiti Basket! Encourage them on donating loose change and talk with them about the importance of helping others.

Funds Raised

All funds raised from registration fees and donations will be donated to the Healing Hands of Haiti organization to support people in need of prostheses (artificial limbs) and orthoses (leg braces, back braces, etc.). All donated new/used prostheses and orthoses will be given to the Range of Motion Project organization which provides them to people in Guatemala who do not have access to health care.

H.O.P.E. stands for Helping Others Progress Everyday, and we are starting with the Haiti relief effort by donating all proceeds to the Healing Hands for Haiti organiziation. Prosthetic & Orthotic Users

Please bring all new or used prosthetic and orthotic devices that you no longer need to race day to be donated to the Range of Motion Project organization. These devices will be sent to Chicago, packaged and shipped to Guatemala to be reused at the R.O.M.P. rehabilitation clinic in the town of Zacapa. This clinic operates on donations and fundraisers to provide volunteer orthotic and prosthetic services to people in Guatemala where health care is absent or unaffordable.

Directions Heading South on Rt. 1

Pass Longwood Gardens/Rt. 926, take a right at the Kennett Square exit, go through 2 traffic lights, at bottom of hill take a right onto N. Walnut Rd., go approx. 200 yards, park entrance will be on left.

Directions Heading North on Rt. 1

Take right onto Kennett Square/ Rt. 82 Exit, turn right onto Rt. 82 N, cross main intersection with State St., take next left onto Cypress St., at 2nd light turn left onto N. Walnut St., take left onto State St. then a quick right back onto N. Walnut St., drive 200 yards, Anson B. Nixon Park will be on the left.

Parking

There is parking in the front and rear entrances to the park, the rear entrance is found by continuing on N. Walnut Rd. past the front entrance, about 1/4 mile on the left is additional parking. There are trails from this parking area to get to the starting line. There is additional parking in the Genesis parking garage located near the intersection of Rt. 82 and State St.

Participant Awards

There will be cash prizes/gift certificates donated from local business to 1st-2nd-3rd overall Male/Female winners, 1st and 2nd place age-group finishers will be awarded medals. All winners will be photographed for the local paper. All race results will be posted after the race, on active.com, and in the local paper.
