A Memorial Day weekend of running & walking celebration. "The Great Hyannis" Road Races are on Sunday morning followed by a post race party on the Hyannis Town Green The 32nd Johnny Kelley Half Marathon is an annual tribute to Cape Cod's Marathon Man, Johnny Kelley. Although Johnny's name is synonymous with the Boston Marathon, he had also represented the United States as a member of three Olympic teams. At the young age of 18 in Nazi Germany, he ran with another legend, the great Jesse Owens, in the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin. He was the only American to cross the finish line, finishing the race in 18th place. The 4th annual Barnstable Police Officer Michael Aselton 5Km is a memorial to a fallen Barnstable Police Officer. The Officer Michael Aselton Scholarship Fund will be an event beneficiary. This Scholarship Fund benefits Barnstable High School students who seek an education in law enforcement.
