Pre-Registration: $15 and a can of food for donation. Race Day Registration: Adults: $20/Youth 18 & under: $15 (plus a can of food for donation).

Brief Description

The Herndon Turkey Trot 5k is organized and sponsored by The Herndon Parks and Recreation Department. The Herndon Turkey Trot 5k is a 3.1 mile cross country style race held on the beautiful Herndon Centennial Golf Course.

Packet Pick-up and Race Day Registration

Packet Pick-up and Race Day Registration will be held on November 20th from 1:30-3:00 PM in the Herndon Community Center gym. Packets will not be available for pick up after race day. Refreshments and entertainment will be provided after the race.

Awards

Overall male and female winners are given a Thanksgiving turkey with all the trimmings. Prizes will be awarded to first and second place finishers in the following age groups: 10 and under, 11-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70 and over. 1st place: Thanksgiving turkey. 2nd place: Mom's Apple Pie.

Donations to LINK

We are asking each runner to bring a can of food for a donation to Link. Link is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping the less fortunate in the Northern Virginia community.

Nike ReUSE A SHOE Recycling Program

As part of the Herndon Turkey Trot 5k this year we are joining with Nike and their Reuse-A-Shoe Recycling Program. We are collecting used running shoes which will later be ground up into small pieces and used to make basketball courts, track fields, playgrounds, floor tiles, new shoes and apparel. Get involved in the recycling effort. Bring as many shoes as you would like. Shoes will be collected at the Herndon Community Center from mid September to November 20th (race day/packet pick-up).

Recycling rules to remember:

-We can only recycle athletic shoes (running shoes, sneakers,etc) -We accept all brands of shoes -No shoes containing metal -No cleats or dress shoes -No wet or damp shoes -No sandals or flip-flops

Please Note

Strollers, baby joggers, pets, in-line skates and headphones are prohibited.

Directions

From Northern Virginia/DC/Maryland, take Route 66 or Route 495 to the Dulles Toll Road. Take the Toll Road west to Exit 10 toward Herndon. Turn right on Elden Street. Take a left immediately after the fifth light onto Ferndale Avenue.

Parking

Limited parking will be available at the Herndon Community Center. Additional parking is available at Herndon Middle School which is located at 901 Locust Street. From Elden Street, take a right turn on Locust Street before coming to Ferndale Avenue.

First 500 pre-registered runners will receive a long sleeve t-shirt. Race sponsored by Footsteps of Reston.
