Project HEAL is a non-profit medical outreach organization at the University of Florida College of Medicine. Each year millions of people in developing nations are without the most basic of healthcare needs. Many people in remote villages have readily preventable diseases, but they are unable to see a physician until it is too late. At the University of Florida, health professional students from multiple disciplines are striving to make a difference in the lives of rural populations by providing these basic services.
Since 2002, UF College of Medicine has been sending Project HEAL to Ecuador for medical outreach. Our trip aims to provide acute care, preventative care, and public health education to thousands of citizens with no other accessible source of medical aid. Consisting predominantly of medical students, but also a number of dental, pharmacy, nursing, and physician assistant students, as well as six volunteering physicians, our team will travel this year to the rural and indigenous villages of Ecuador.
