  • Additional Information

All races and events will occur over the weekend of October 3 - 4, 2009.

The 5K run up Mount Scott will take place on Saturday, October 3 at 7:30 am, and the Kid's Marathon and 5K Spirit Walk/Family Fun run will follow at 1 pm and 2 pm. The marathon and half-marathon will begin on Sunday, October 4 at 8 am, followed by the Deer Creek Canyon 10K and Lake Elmer Thomas 5K at 8:15 am.

The Mount Scott 5K averages a 7% incline all the way up the mountain and is rated very difficult by experienced runners. The Mount Scott 5K is considered a challenging hill run. The marathon course has some hills and turns, but is mostly flat with a long, straight course with very few turns. Runners will lose themselves in the absolute beauty of a run through the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. The winner of the inaugural SOS marathon posted a 2:30:57 finish in the pouring rain. Despite some hills, the open range poses an opportunity for speed. The Deer Creek Canyon 10K and Lake Elmer Thomas 5K are flat, straight and fast. These two races are great for novice runners looking for an enjoyable, less challenging run. All races are Championchip timed.
