Brief Description

Join us for the third annual DrumStix Dash 8K and family fun run. Celebrate Thanksgiving and the fall colors and have an opportunity to have fun and exercise at a beautiful park location. Our event features an interesting 8K and a fun run for those folks who aren't up to going almost 5 miles.

Our Charity Beneficiary

100 percent of the race net proceeds will be donated to Housing & Community Services of Northern Virginia. The funds will be used to assist Fairfax County residents who are in housing distress with counseling services. More and more people in NoVa are having crises about where they are going to live. Your support is needed to help transform many lives of people in need right here, and right now. Please come out, bring the whole family, and have fun during this Thanksgiving weekend race.

Sign Up for an 8K Training Program

The DrumStix Dash 8K has teamed up with ActiveTrainer coaches to provide training plans specifically for this race. These plans are designed for athletes of ALL levels, from the first-timer all the way up to the most experienced athlete. Included with your training plan is an online calendar, reporting tools, training calculators, maps, daily emails, and much more!

Awards and Prizes

Top three overall & first three age group winners (19 & under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 and over) will receive merchandise awards/prizes. Overall awards will be based on clock time; age group awards will be based on transponder time. There will be great random prizes from local merchants & other race sponsors.

Family 1-Mile Fun Run

Not up for an 8K? Then join us for the 1-Mile Fun Run to start at 9:15 AM, just after the 8K takes off. The Fun Run is a great way to get the whole family involved and have a good time!

For Your Safety

Water stations, emergency medical, and cell phones will be available. The following will not be allowed on the race course: bikes, skateboards, strollers, rollerblades, dogs, headphones, and unregistered runners. Strollers and dogs on leashes ARE permitted in the 1-Mile Fun Run.

Amenities

All 8K participants will receive an official commemorative cotton race t-shirt. The 1-Mile participants will receive keepsake medals.

ChronoTrack Timing and Scoring

Transponder timing operated by Capital Running Company will be used to score the 8K race. The system uses a computer "tag" which must be tied to each runners' shoelaces and records the exact time a runner crosses the starting line and the finish line, resulting in a net time for each runner. The D-tag is disposable. Overall awards will be based upon clock time and age group awards will be based upon transponder times

Picking Up for Your Friends and family

We do allow runners to pick up bibs and t-shirts for their friends. Please note that t-shirts cannot be mailed. You will not need to show us your ID or copies of their ID to pick up for them.

Directions from Route 66

Take the Fairfax County Parkway, Exit 55A (7100 South towards Springfield). Continue on the Fairfax County Parkway for approx 5 miles. Take a right onto Burke Lake Road. At the next light, turn left onto Ox Road (Route 123). *The golf course entrance is the first left off Ox Road (Route 123). The park entrance is the second left off Ox Road (Route 123).

Race Results

Race management, timing, and results will be provided by Capital Running Company. Official race results will be posted at www.potomacriverrunning.com and at www.runwashington.com. For your convenience, Capital Running will be using ChronoTrack timing technology for all participants in the 8K. Transponder timing will not be used for the Fun Run.

Directions from 1-95 South

Take exit #160 (Route 123 North). The sign will say Woodbridge, Occoquan, and Lakeridge. *Follow 123 North for 7.5 miles to the park entrance on the right. (If you see the golf course then you have gone too far.) *The golf course entrance will be the next right off Ox Road (Route 123), beyond the park entrance.

Directions from the Beltway and DC

Take the Braddock Road West exit and travel approximately 2 miles. Turn left onto Burke Lake Road (at Kings Park Shopping Center). Follow Burke Lake Road for 5 miles. Turn left onto Ox Road (Route 123 South). *The golf course entrance is the first left off Ox Road (Route 123). The park entrance is the second left off Ox Road (Route 123).
