About the Race

Kettle Moraine State Park - Southern Unit is a large park preserve in a natural wooded setting located in Eagle/Dousman area, 10 miles south of Oconomowoc, just 20-25 minutes from Milwaukee and 40 minutes from Madison.

Swim

The swim will be held in spring-fed Ottawa Lake. The course for the kid’s triathlon will be set so depths allow for a proper swim for older children, with shallow waters for our youngest participants. The water will be very temperate given the time of year in late July. Participants will start in individual "time trial" starts to avoid crowding and provide a more relaxed start for the a positive race experience. Swim caps are mandatory.

cont.

The start will be very controlled in a separated area to keep congestion off the beach, but close enough for spectators to see the action and cheer on their triathlete. A high ratio of volunteers to participants will be on hand.

Bike

The bike course for the kid’s triathlon will be a flat ride on a closed course for safety under the USAT rules. Bike routes will be out and back with a 180 degree turn around.

Run

The run for the kid’s triathlon will be on a closed course for safety under the USAT rules. The course will be on the paved roads.

Transition (T1 and T2)

The bike racks and transition area will be just steps away from the beach in a fenced off area for safety and security. Each child will have a designated rack space and spot specifically for their gear. Participants should bring a small towel to lay out their items for each transition, for easy identification, and to be ready to go from sport to sport to make it a fun experience.

cont.

ONE parent or a designated assistant will be allowed to assist children age 8 and under and for disabled athletes. A duplicate race number will be provided for ONE assistant in the registration packet. Only those wearing a race number will be allowed in transition areas. Older children will be assisted by volunteers ONLY. No siblings, other adults, or pets will be allowed in the transition area. We ask that all pets be left home for the safety of racers and spectators.
