Additional Information
The Mother’s Day Walk/Run began 28 years ago by Betty Brasgala. As an avid runner, she saw the need for a women-only event in Duluth to inspire women to “get off the sidelines”. After three years, Betty chose to affiliate the race with the YWCA.
We are proud of the history of the race and the spirit of volunteerism and community that it inspires. In celebration of this tradition, the run is still for women only.
In January 2005, Betty Brasgala was diagnosed with breast cancer. The race was renamed and will forever be known as “Betty’s Race”.
