Additional Information

One Love, One Heart is a 5k run/walk to benefit the Cornelia de Lange (CdLS) Foundation in honor of Maya, a 9 year old that lives in Decatur, GA, with her parents Jen and Jim, brother Jake (3), and sister Hannah (7). She was born a mere three pounds and spent her first month of life in the NICU. She was a fighter then, and continues to be a fighter today. Around Christmas 2010, Maya took her first steps, and has not stopped walking since. Maya epitomizes the Forest Gump phrase, “Life is like a box of chocolates,” you truly never know what you are gonna get. She surprises and amazes her family and teachers every day. Maya was born with a love for music, and this continues to be her main love today. Give her a drum, piano, shaker, etc. and she will play it and come up with her own arrangement of rhythms. She was born with an uncanny sense of beat and tempo and loves to display these at any given opportunity. Maya also loves playing with her siblings and classmates. She is usually full of smiles and laughter. Maya attends Winnona Park Elementary School and is part of a small, self-contained classroom for exceptional students. She also spends a lot of time visiting the other classrooms and enjoys reading, music and gym with the other students. Maya has benefited a great deal from the schools commitment to education for exceptional students and the students have also benefited from Maya’s class by learning about diversity and tolerance. We are so proud of you Maya!
