Brief Description

Come celebrate the beginning of summer in the South with a NASCAR themed race. All three events will start and finish at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame. Participants will have the opportunity to tour the museum before and after the race. This inaugural event is expected to sell out early, so don't put off registration.

Pacing, Finishing, & Timing

In order to maintain a safe course, and have an awards ceremony before the morning ends, the course will officially close at 11:10 am (3 1/2 hours after wave 5 starts). Any participants still on the course will need to move to the sidewalks

Awards

Awards will be given out when we have enough finishers in to fill the categories. All finishers of the Half & 5000 will receive custom finisher medals. Special awards to top 3 men and women, as well as top 3 master's men & women. Awards will also be handed out to the top 3 in each 5 year age group starting at 19 & under (10 & under for the 5000) and going through 65 years & older. Awards to the top 3 finishers of the Short Track Run. All awards will be given out based on net time.

Shirts & Goodies

All participants will receive a race specific moisture wicking shirt (kid sizes may not be moisture wicking). We'll also have custom bags full of some great goodies.

Water, Aid, & Potties

Water will be located just past the 2 mile mark, and approximately every 1.5 miles thereafter. Each stop after mile 4 will have energy drink as well. Aid stations after mile 7 will also have pretzels, bananas, and other items as well as sponges. There will be several points along the course with port-a-potties.

Parking

Arrive early...parking will be available at the Georgia racing hall of Fame first, then Dawson County Middle School, and other surrounding parking lots (the furthest being just under a 1 mile easy walk). All lots will have exit ability after the race starts.

Event Beneficiary

The primary beneficiary for the event is Friends of Dawson County Parks, who provide scholarships to children unable to pay for sporting activities and equipment. Several other local charities will also benefit.

Wave Start

Participants will be assigned a wave # based on estimated finish time. All awards will be based on Gun Time.

Dawsonville 5000

This race is a 5K open to all ages, and paces.

Short Track Run

This is a Fun Run open to all ages and paces.

Entry Fee & Registration

Downloadable registration forms are available through the race website. Entry fees for the half marathon are $50 through 4/3, $60 through 5/3, $70 through 6/3, and $80 until race day. Entry for the Dawsonville 5000 is $25 through 6/3. Entry for the Short Track Run is $20.

Course Entertainment

We'll have music, cheering volunteers, and several points along the course to keep your spirits high, and keep your energy up.

Prizes

We'll have some great prizes for our top winners, as well as some great door prizes. More info to come.

Group/Team Challenge

Grab your buddies, co-workers, or random strangers and challenge them to see who's the fastest. If you have at least 10 people, we're going to give a special award (and a prize) to the fastest person in the group. More details to come.

Pasta Dinner

Friday Night at 6:00 we'll be having a Piazza cater a Pasta Dinner, and you're invited. You can also bring your family. Dinner will be served at the racing Hall of Fame. There will be music and motivational films. The menu will include: Salad & Bread, Classic Beef Lasagna & Cheese Manicotti, Cookie, Sweet or Unsweetened Tea...Tickets are $15 (all inclusive)

Additional Information

All entry fees are NON-REFUNDABLE. Entries for the 2012 Dawsonville 1/2 Maratho, The Dawsonville 5000, and the Dawsonville Short Track Run will not be deferred to the 2013 event. All 1/2 marathon participants must be able to maintain a 16:00 minute per mile pace. You must be 13 years of age on race day to participate in the half marathon. Race registration will close once the maximum field is reached, regardless of the date. Registration over the phone, fax or email will NOT be accepted. All registrations must be done via online or mail in.
