Additional Information

Welcome!

With varying distances and challenges, we invite athletes of all abilities to join us for a wonderful weekend of fitness events in sparkling Clearwater, Florida!

Our events consist of:
• Sunday, January 22: 7th Annual Clearwater Halfathon
• Sunday, January 22: 6th Annual Clearwater 5-Miler
• Sunday, January 22: 3rd Annual Clearwater 5K Fitness Walk

Both races feature out-and-back courses, which are mostly flat and aesthetically varied, while challenging, due to the courses passing over the majestic Clearwater Memorial Bridge twice.

Halfathon athletes also ascend the Sand Key Bridge twice - at mile 4 and at mile 9. The high point for each bridge is just 75 feet above sea level, with the rest of the course totally flat. The scenic courses, all of which are within 1/4 mile of Clearwater Bay or the Gulf of Mexico, are precisely measured and USATF certified.

All events officially start on Clearwater's waterfront at 7:05 am, heads north and east on the Drew Street Extension, south on Osceola, and west over the majestic Clearwater Memorial Bridge to Clearwater Beach. Our 5-mile athletes turn back on Clearwater Beach, returning over the Clearwater Causeway to Coachman Park.

Our Halfathon athletes continue south on Clearwater Beach to and over the Sand Key Bridge into Sand Key Park, south to the Belleair Beach city limits, before returning back to Clearwater's downtown waterfront along the same route to the finish line adjacent to Coachman Park, the perfect place to relax and recover.

Our Clearwater 5K Fitness Walk was created to promote an active lifestyle and will be especially appealing to those who made New Year Resolutions to lead a more healthy lifestyle. It will be staged as a fundraiser, with nearly all proceeds from this non-competitive event earmarked for non-profit organizations.

Similar to our Clearwater races, the course will start at Clearwater's waterfront, and follow the same route towards Clearwater Beach. There will be a turn-around point marked on the Clearwater Causeway, directing walkers back over the bridge, through downtown, to our waterfront finish line.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Florida's weather in January can't be beat: average low is 51, average high is 71, perfect for long distance running and a mid-winter vacation on our award-winning beaches!

Since we started in January, 2000, our races have attracted athletes from nearly every state in the USA and about 20 different countries.

USATF SANCTIONED
All our races are sanctioned and insured through USATF for runners, joggers, and walkers ONLY. Strollers, skaters, skateboards and bicycles are NOT allowed on the course during our races.

HEADPHONES AND IPODS
Headphones of any type are now allowed at USATF sanctioned events, but are discouraged due to safety concerns, not only during the actual race, but as importantly, while athletes are training in an uncontrolled environment. Individual races may impose their own regulations, but we don’t, as it would be nearly impossible to enforce.

FITNESS WALKERS
Are welcome in all of our events and encouraged to participate. Walkers in our 5-Miler and Halfathon expecting to finish slower than a 15-minute per mile pace are required to start early each day at 6:35 am, allowing them to reach the finish line by the 10:05 am cut-off for the Halfathon. This early start also allows our road restrictions to expire earlier, keeping residents and city officials happy with our event.

HALFATHON AWARDS
All finishers in the halfathon will earn unique, Running Starfish gold medals.

Custom plaques for M/F overall, masters (40+) and grandmasters (50+), three deep

Age group awards offered three deep in standard 5 year increments in each race.

5 MILER AWARDS

3RD ANNUAL FLORIDA HALFATHON SERIES

• December 11, 2011 Florida Holiday Halfathon
• January 22, 2012 Clearwater Halfathon, 5 Miler, and 5K Fitness Walk
• March 18, 2012 Florida Beach Halfathon & 5k Race

In addition to offering finisher awards and event overall awards after each race, we also track each athlete's finishing times and add them together to determine Champions of the Florida Halfathon Series.

Athletes accumulate their total finishing time by completing any three of our four halfathons during each season from Halloween through March. Those athletes who complete all four of our halfathons will have their slowest time dropped automatically.

To recognize our fastest and most consistent halfathon athletes, we offer special overall and age-group rewards based on three halfathons. We also recognize athletes who complete all four of our halfathons with exclusive finisher medals and shirts.

Our simple goal is to exceed your expectations.
