Brief Description

The Fool Moon 12/24 Hour Runs will be held each year on the full moon weekend closest to April Fools' Day. The FMRs are on a natural trail loop course in Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, Calabasas, CA.

Post Race Festivities

Awards and post race refreshments will be served to 24-hour runners after the completion of the run.

12 HOUR ENTRY FEES

$95 until 1/31; $105 thereafter until 2/31; $115 thereafter until 4/9

24 HOUR ENTRY FEES

$180 until 1/31; $190 thereafter until 2/31; $200 thereafter until 4/9.

FAQ #1 - What is the course description?

The race course is a 1.81 mile loop on graded fire road with some unmaintained double track trail on the Mary Weisbrock Trail at Lasky Mesa in Ahmanson Ranch. The course is on a mesa that will offer spectacular canyon and valley views with night lights of the San Fernando Valley.

FAQ #2 - What is the elevation change per loop?

There is approximately 186 feet of gain and 186 feet of loss per loop; this would calculate to approximately 5136 feet of gain and 5136 feet of loss over 100-miles.

FAQ #3 - How are the hills distributed?

1.0 miles of the course has graded fire road with up or down hill gradual slopes; 0.8 miles has unmaintained double track trail with short undulations.

FAQ #4 - What support does the race provide?

The race will provide computerized lap counting, one food station and a tent with cots for napping. There will be no medical or foot treatment; every runner must be self contained.

FAQ #5 - Can I have my own pit stop on the course?

All runners may prepare drop bags to access at the race hub. Additionally, there will be a designated area along the race course for 24 hour runners to set up their own personal pit stop. There will be no tents or shade tarps permitted along the race course.

FAQ #6 - What about camping?

There will be a dedicated area for tent camping. No motorized vehicles will be permitted in the camping area. No flames or fires of any kind will be permitted. Any lanterns must be battery operated.

FAQ #6 - What are the directions to the race?

Exit the 101 freeway at Las Virgenes Road; RIGHT on Las Virgenes Road to Mureau Road; RIGHT on Mureau Road to Crummer Canyon Road; LEFT on Crummer Canyon Road to Lasky Mesa.

FAQ #7 - What is the weather expected to be?

Temperatures in Calabasas in April average high of 78 and lows of 45. Average rainfall in April is 0.88 inches in April. Event will be held rain or shine.

FAQ #8 - Will I need to use a flashlight?

There will be lights only at base camp/timing station. The race course is on a high mesa with no overhanging trees so there should be plenty of full moon light however runners are encouraged to carry a flashlight or wear a head lamp during dark hours.
