This trail winds through the streets of Buffalo, past the historical Occidental Hotel where the likes of President Teddy Roosevelt, Butch Cassidy, the Sundance Kid, Calamity Jane, and Buffalo Bill Cody have all rested their spurs. It then meanders along scenic Clear Creek with the Big Horn Mountains in the background. Along the way hikers are introduced to some of the best features of Buffalo such as the state?s largest outdoor swimming pool (free to all) and the Jim Gatchell Memorial Museum where the history of Johnson County comes alive. Halfway on the 11K route, stop at the Veterans Home of Wyoming, the previous site of Fort McKinney. Allow 1-1.5 hours on the 5K route and 2-3 hours on the 11K route.
