Brief Description

Everyone is welcome at NOC's Duck n Run, the most serious ducky/trail run biathlon ever to take place on the Nantahala River. Competitors begin by hopping into a ducky (an inflatable kayak) at Ferebee Park, and paddling a distance of 5 river miles to the NOC takeout. (Included in this paddle is Nantahala Falls, a Class III rapid) Once on land, racers will complete their biathlon with a 4.5-mile run on the Flint Ridge Trail.

Additional Information

The Duck n’ Run is an adventure race for those who are out to do their best and get their hands dirty, but are not about to let the pressures of competition spoil their good time. Many competitors choose to walk the steep ascent from the river to the start of the Flint Ridge Trail before beginning the trail run in earnest, and we don’t blame them. Competitor check-in will be held from 11am-12pm on Saturday, May 18th at the Event Tent near the transition zone. At 12pm, all competitors will be required to watch the standard NOC river safety video, and get on the bus to drive upstream to Ferebee Park. Split times will be recorded upon landing at the takeout, and again upon crossing the finish line at Slow Joe's Café, following the run segment. This means that the "transition zone" (where racers convert from river gear to running clothes) is included in the overall time—it is calculated as a part of the running portion of the race. Like a race-car pit-stop, the advantage goes to participants that can refuel and retread in the quickest amount of time.
