The Winter Warrior Duathlon is a great way to test your off season fitness or kick off your 2012 multisport season. Whether a multisport newbie or a grizzled veteran, this 2.5 mi run/12 mi bike/2.5 mi run is your race. Don't want to do it alone, team up and race as a 2 or 3 team relay.

Winter Warrior Duathlon

The Race

The race starts at 8:00 a.m. and finishes at the Oscar Frazier Park, Shults Road/8th Avenue, Bluffton, SC 29910. The runs are a 2.5 mile (4.2K) loop through Old Town Bluffton. The ride is an out and back 12 mile tour of the roads of "new" Bluffton. This is a flat and very fast race!

Individual or Relay?

Run 2.5 miles , ride 12 miles, run another 2.5 miles ..and you've nailed it....you are a Winter Warrior! Relay teams of 2 or 3 are allowed and welcome! Get your long underwear on, wrap up, come race!

Winter Warrior Duathlon Race Fees-Individual

The race fees are: Individual:$40.00 through January 8, 2012; $50.00 Jan 9 through February 5; $60.00 February 6 through February, 19; $70.00 after February 19 (including packet pick up and race day registration.)

Winter Warrior Duathlon Race Fees-Relay

Relays:$65.00 through January 8; 75.00 through Feb 5; $85.00 through Feb 19; $95.00 after Feb 19 (including packet pick up & race day registration.

Ultimate Winter Warrior-duathlon & splash n' dash

Ultimate Winter Warrior Fees--individual

The combined Winter Warrior Duathlon & Winter Warrior Splash & Dash (Ultimate Winter Warrior) race fees are: (Individuals): $65.00 through January 8, 2012; $85.00 through Feb 5; $100.00 through Feb 19; and, $120.00 after Feb 19 including packet pick up and race day.

Ultimate Winter Warrior Relay Rules & Fees

Relay teams may race the combined Winter Warrior Duathlon & Winter Warrior Splash & Dash (Ultimate Winter Warrior) but they MUST be the same relay team members (2 person relay team...3 won't work) for BOTH races! If team members are changed, the teams do not qualify for Ultimate Winter Warrior shirts or awards!! The race fees are: (relay): $120 through January 8, 2012; $130.00 through Feb 5; $150.00 through Feb 19; and, $170.00 after Feb 19 including packet pick up and race day.

Winter Warrior 4.2K Road Race

Got some buds who would rather just run and forget about all of this multisport monkey business? Duathlons-USAT Sanctioned Races

The duathlon is being sanctioned with USA Triathlon. ALL duathlon participants, including all relay team members, must be a licensed USAT member at the time of the race or buy a one-day license to race for $12.00. For more information on USA Triathlon and to join, see www.usatriathlon.org or call 719/597-9090. USAT rules shall be enforced. You are responsible for knowing the USAT rules. USAT rules WILL be enforced! Helmets and handlebar ends are required. There is no drafting on the bike!

Refunds & Race Delays

There are no refunds. The race will take place rain or shine BUT the race director reserves the right to modify the course or change the start time or possibly even the date of the race for the safety of the participants.

Packet Pick-Up & Race Day Registration

Place and times for packet pick-up will soon be determined. If registered, you'll be notified of the time and place. Alternatively, check back here for further details. On race day, packets will be available from 7:00 a.m. - 7:30 a.m. at the race site. There will be limited race day registration at the race site from 7:00-7:30 a.m. race morning.

Directions to the race site from Hilton Head

The race will start and end at the Oscar Frazier Park, Shults/8th Ave., Bluffton, SC 29910. From Hilton Head, take 278 off island, left on Highway 46 (Bluffton Road) into Bluffton, right at the 4 way stop towards Savannah (this is 46/May River Road), right on Goethe, Left on Shults, the park is on your right.

Directions to the race site from Savannah, Ga

The race will start and end at the Oscar Frazier Park, Shults/8th Ave., Bluffton, SC 29910. From Savannah, Ga., cross the Savannah River on US 17, stay on 17 until you see signs for Hilton Head and turn onto 170 towards Hilton Head/Bluffton. 170 merges with 46. Stay on 170/46 into Bluffton. In Bluffton, take a left on Pin Oak (next to the Squat & Gobble). Turn off of Pin Oak onto 8th Street/Shults. The park is on your left.

THE RUNS

The runs are loop courses that take you through Old Town Bluffton. From the park to Pin Oak, Pin Oak directly across May River to Thomas Heyward, Thos. Heyward to Bridge, Bridge to Calhoun, Calhoun to May river, May River to Pin Oak, back to the Park. There will be at least 2 chances to pass an aid station. The aid stations will offer water and fluid replacement drinks.

THE BIKE COURSE

The 12 mile course is out & back. The course is very flat. The roads are paved. There could always be some potholes and areas that we will endeavor to mark to call your attention to them but you are required to keep your attention to your ride and your surroundings. The turns and turn around will be marked. Deputies and volunteers will be on the course but you are to stay aware of the surroundings! You must ride to the right unless passing! Helmets and handlebar ends are required.

Race Shirts

All pre-registered by February 12, 2012 will receive race shirts. You must register by February 12 to guarantee that you will receive a shirt in the size that you like. There is NO guarantee as to race shirt availability or size availability if not registered before February 12!! This goes to Ultimate Winter Warriors too! At present, all cotton, uni-sex shirts are contemplated so size accordingly!

AWARDS

Awards will be given to: The overall male and female, master’s male and female, and grandmaster male and female winners will receive awards. Awards will be given to the top male and female athlete in 14 and under age group and 5 year age groups from 15-70+. Awards will be given to the top male, female, and coed relay team. Finishers awards will be given to all completing the duathlon!!

Post Race Party and Awards Ceremony

Be sure to hang around and enjoy a post race party. The awards ceremony will be held as soon as possible following each race. Unclaimed awards will not be mailed.

All participants will receive race shirts. Awards will go to overall and age group winners. This event is sure to please the greenest of athletes and those who are road tested. You don't want to miss it!

USA Triathlon is the national governing body for the sports of triathlon, duathlon, winter triathlon and aquathlon in the United States.
