About Draper Mile

A one mile road race held in conjunction with the Downtown Blacksburg's Steppin' Out festival. The course is mostly downhill, starting and ending on Draper Road in Blacksburg, with the finish in the middle of the street festival. Times are about 10-12 seconds faster than a track mile.

6:20 pm-Childrens Fun Run

Starts at the corner of Kent Square Parking Garage. No registration required; this is for children age 8 and under. The finish is the same as that for the Draper Mile. The distance is about 300 meters (less than a quarter of a mile). Participants should meet at the start at 6:10 pm to get instructions. After finishing, children will be directed to Jackson St.

6:30 pm-Mile Race

Males that have run faster than 6:15 and Females who have run faster than 7:15 are eligible for the Draper Mile Race

6:40 pm-Open Mile Run

This event is open to anyone aged 8 and over.

Awards

Results will be combined for the Race and Open Runs. The first eligible male and female finishers in the top three receive $175, and the other two receive a pair of shoes. Age groups : 8-9, 10-11, 12-13, 14-16, 17-18, 19-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60+. Awards are three deep. First male and female masters (age 40-49), grand-masters (age 50-59), and super grand-masters (60+) each receive $30.00 based on finishing time (so runners can be in either race).

Registration

Each race is limited to 150 registered runners. Early-registration $16 by July 20th at Runabout Sports! $17.00 if received at Mish Mish or Runabout Sports by August 1. $25 thereafter up to 5:00 pm August 3 or until we sell out. Blacksburg Strider's members receive a $2.00 discount; maximum immediate family entry fee is $50.00 (if before August 3). Family registration price must use paper forms. Shirts will be given out to the first 225 registrants.

Pick-Up

Race packets can be picked up at Runabout Sports from 10 am- 7 pm Thursday, August 2. Day-of-Race registration and packet pick-up is 10 am- 6 pm at the registration table near the back door of Mish Mish (on Jackson St.).
