Additional Information
Welcome to the Thunder Run event. This is the first year for this event and we are excited to add a trail running event to the Black Hills Trail Running Series sponsored by the Black Hills Runners Club. We hope you will join us on this beautiful trail.
The Thunder Run is a 9 mile run through the Black Hills National Forest located in an area called Victoria Lake approximately 10 miles south of Rapid City in the Black Hills.
In September, the Black Hills are characterized by sunny fall days with mild temps. The course itself is single track winding its way through tree-lined National Forest Service land and consists of rolling ups and downs. The first half of the run has a net climb with the second half of the course working it’s way back down.
The Black Hills Trail Series emphasizes personal achievement and the joy of exercise in the outdoors, in a relaxed and fun setting. It consists of at least 7 trail runs. We clearly mark the trails, record all finish times, and post the results on our web site. We award points in Men/Women Divisions with two age groups: Open Division, 39 and under; and Masters Division, 40 and older. We keep a running total of the accumulated points and present awards at the end of the series in November. We do not present awards for the winners of each individual race, however, we provide a few prizes for noteworthy runs, and have drawings for door prizes.
