Brief Description

The Black Hills Runners Club presents its second annual Trail Running Series, set in the Black Hills of South Dakota and Wyoming's Bear Lodge Mountains.

Directions

From Spearfish (probably fastest, but almost all gravel road) Take Forest Road 134* (Tinton Rd.) approx. 13 miles to the Old Baldy trailhead (it's on the right and not marked exceptionally well, just a little brown hiking sign, but there will be flagging and/or signs on race day)

More Directions

*For those unfamiliar with how to get to Tinton Rd., the fastest and easiest way is to bypass Spearfish altogether by taking I-90 all the way to Exit 8 (McGuigan Rd.). After exiting the interstate, turn south (toward the Hills) on McGuigan. After a couple of miles, you'll pass the lumber mill and McGuigan will become Tinton, just keep heading straight for the Hills.

Alternate Directions

Alternate route from Spearfish (less gravel, but the Canyon can be busy) Take the Spearfish Canyon road (Hwy. 14A) to Savoy. At Savoy, turn right onto Forest Road 222 (toward Roughlock Falls) Follow 222 all the way (approx. 6 miles) to Forest Road 134 (Tinton Rd.) Turn right on 134 and follow it approx. 1.1 miles to the trailhead (which will be on the left coming from this direction

Additional Information

The Old BaldyTrail Race is a 6 mile trail up and down the hills of Old Baldy in the beautiful Tinton Rd. area near Spearfish, SD. It's the second of four new runs in the ten race 2010 series. The Black Hills Trail Series emphasizes personal achievement and the joy of exercise in the outdoors, in a relaxed and fun setting. It consists of at least 7 trail runs. We clearly mark the trails, record all finish times, and post the results on our web site. We award points in Men/Women Divisions with two age groups: Open Division, 39 and under; and Masters Division, 40 and older. We keep a running total of the accumulated points and present awards at the end of the series in November. We do not present awards for the winners of each individual race, however, we provide a few prizes for noteworthy runs, and have drawings for door prizes.
