Brief Description

The Blue Cross and Blue Sheild of Alabama Kids Mercedes Marathon is an innovative five month endurance building running/walking program for K-5th graders. Children will run the distance of a full marathon (26.2 miles) over the course of the five month program. To achieve this goal, kids must train for the last mile of their marathon by running 25.2 miles in 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 or 1 mile increments between now and the end of January 2013 to qualify for race day participation.

Additional Information

To participate in the Kids Mercedes Marathon, children in kindergarten (K5) through 5th grade will run a total of 25.2 miles in increments of one-quarter to one mile. Each student will run in PE class and/or with their parent(s) and will keep a running log sheet to track his/her progress. Mileage is based on adult supervision and the honor system. As each child completes their final mile on the actual marathon course on Saturday, February 16, 2013, he or she will receive a Kids Mercedes Marathon Finisher’s Medal (a miniature version of the Mercedes Marathon finisher’s medal). There are no official winners. Our motto is "if you had fun you won!!".
