Brief Description

Baltimore's premier winter race! The eighth running of a rolling course that winds around the Mansion House, the Baltimore Zoo, the Arboreteum, Druid Lake, the Moorish Tower, to a downhill finish. And absolutely the finest winter running shirt in the land.

Pricing / Budget Information

This event attempts to provide a quality race and post-race party for about $10 per runner. The fixed pricing goes to insurance, permits, barricades, police, and Parks&Rec Maintenance to salt and clear roads. The variable aspects go to food, drink, awards, prizes, tents, spot-a-pots, chiptiming, etc. Donations are made to Parks&People and RRCA. Premiums are sold for acquisition costs (volunteers get one too!) Losses have been underwritten by Falls Road Running as part of its marketing budget.

Brooks LTD Fleece 1/2 Zip Celtic Solstice Premium

This Lightweight Thermal Device micro-fleece was built with chilly Runday mornings in mind; sporting it either for a run or sipping coffee at your favorite café, is your choice. We selected this as a complement to the 2006 base layer shirt and the 2007 outer layer jacket. You can wear this on its own on cool days, or as a mid-layer on really cold days.

Half-Zip Quality and Details

This high-quality pullover with a nine-inch half-zip in its ordinary form has an MSRP of $55. This half-zip is a custom factory make-up with an embroidered race logo for the Celtic Solstice only. The fleece and colors were on display last year and the style and colors were were selected by a post-race survey of race participants. See the web page at baltimorerunning.com for more details.

Premium Limitations

Premiums for the first 1,800 runners to register in accordance with the following sizes: F Sm/M XS - 225 F Med/M Sm - 450 F Lrg/M Med - 450 F XL/M Lrg - 450 F XXL/MXL - 200 M XXL - 25

The referenced sizes are sold out. Active should cut off registration. the F XS/S and M Sm should bump up a size, Female XL may consider a Male Med or Large. There will be a size swap area after the race, but excess premiums are not guaranteed to be on hand.

Sizing Issues - Men's and Women's Sizes

Last year the jackets were unisex sized. This year we are back to men' sizes and women's sizes. That also means that the colors are a feminine indigo blue with a contrasting trim, while the men's shirts are Oceanus blue with metal trim. This translate as women's are purplish blue with lighter blue trim and men's are dark blue with gray trim.

$12 Registration Reopened as FUN RUN

Online registration for the non-premium category will closed at 400 registrants with chip timing. This category filled up, we have opened a new "Fun Run" category. Participants pay the same price, but will not receive a time or be posted in results. Proceeds to go Parks and People Foundation.

Jacket pickup hours

You will be able to pickup the premium fleece at Falls Road Running Store in Mt Washington beginning at noon Saturday Dec 13 and running through normal business hours. If out-of-town registration levels approach last year's, we will attempt to coordinate an early weekend premium pick-up with a couple of other running stores. It will be a by-name only, with distribution dictated by zip code. Details will be posted here as this writing is early.

Out-of-town Jacket Pickup

Dec 13 and 14th - Montgomery Co -Pacers in Silver Spring. DC $ NoVA - Pacers in Arlington, Clarendon Metro Stop. Howard County - Feet First. Anne Arundel - Fleet Feet Annapolis. Info posted at www.baltimorerunning.com. No substitutions. Race numbers and ChampionChips will be distributed at the event itself.

Walk-Up/Mail-In Registration

You may walk-up register at Falls Road Running store in Mount Washington during normal business hours. Race day registration will start at 7:00 AM at the Stieff Silver Building on December 20. $15 with no fleece. If you want a fleece you will need to check at the premium distribution table to find out if there are any left over.

Directions to the Start From I83 (Jones Falls XPY)

Take Exit 7 to Druid Lake Drive. Take Druid Lake Drive to the first road on the right at the end of the lake (not the lakeside road). Turn right. Go to the Mansion House Loop and follow the parking instructions. Shuttles will take you to Stieff Silver.

Overflow Parking

There is a limited number of office parking spots at Stieff Silver and at the parking lot across the road. Runners are encouraged to park in the designated parking area on the Mansion House Loop. Additional parking may be found by driving into Hampden and the JHU Campus, some free and some metered.

Christmas Tree Decorations

Per a special arrangement, we plan to have a limited number of Christmas Tree balls with this year's Celtic Solstice logo available for sale at packet pickup or on race day.

Kilts to be available

A number of runners have inquired as to the availability of kilts for the event. Falls Road Running will have authentic kilts during packet pick-up week. You may buy a kilt for $30 or rent one for $20 with a $40 deposit and $20 refunded upon return.
