The Eugene Marathon values the "Emerald city" and strives to keep things green! Runners receive a virtual race bag that's filled with coupons, giveaways and exclusive offers. Besides recycling, using local organic food, and offering a ride sharing program, Eugene Marathon partnered up with Green Mountain Energy Company to provide energy and offset CO2 emissions.
The American River Parkway Half Marathon

This is the only half marathon that has not one, but two separate USATF certified courses for runners and walkers. Run or walk along the nation's longest and most scenic parkway of downtown Sacramento. The American River Parkway Half has a few "green" features: eco-friendly tech-fiber T-shirts, personal water bottle fill-up at all aid stations, bike check (so you can ride your bike to the race) and more.
TD Beach to Beacon 10K

So many races produce tons of waste, but not the TD Beach to Beacon 10K. Last year they were able to recycle 66 percent of 5.7 tons of waste. This year their goal is to recycle and compost 75 percent. Another green initiative you'll see on race day is the recycle your old shoes program. Runners can donate their shoes at the pre-race expo or at the finish line in the Nike Reuse-a-Shoe box. So while you get to run a scenic waterfront course, you also get to help protect Mother Earth.

Swim in pristine waters, bike through Cathedral Park, and run portions of the historical Portland marathon course. When you cross the finish line, grab a beer, and eat tasty local and organic food. What makes this race so green? This world-class event promotes health, fitness and sustainability. Akron Marathon's sustainability efforts start before the race, in the marathon office, and continue through the course to post-race pick up. At the finish line there are composting containers for banana peels and food scraps.

Named one of the most sustainable athletic events in the country, the ING Hartford Marathon has saved 20,000 plastic bottles from local landfills because of the water bubbler (built by United Technologies and powered by Vital Water). As you run through the historic streets of Hartford, notice all the biodegradable paper products and recycling bins.

Bring a camera so you can snap a picture of Brad Pitt's Malibu mansion, and other celebrity homes. As you cross the finish line, enjoy organic local food (part of their green practices) and entertainment. If you happened to let some clothing go along the course, it will be donated to a local charity.
