Thanksgiving Day is a uniquely American holiday and the Feaster Five Eagle-Tribune Road Races, November 25, give the quintessential American dessert--a full size apple pie--to every finisher. This year the incentives to run or walk in the 5 mile, 5 K or Kid's Fun Run event on Thanksgiving morning are even sweeter. This race has it all from incredible prizes for the new "Family Contest" to the Fitness Expo featuring talks by running legends Bill Rogers, Joan Benoit Samuelson and Team Hoyt - Rick and Dick Hoyt. To top it all off, as a thank you to all participants for the success of this race, all on line fees are waived...now that is something to be thankful for!
"We see this race as the perfect manifestation to encourage runners at all levels," says Tom Liccairadello, member of the Merrimack Valley Striders, the hosts of this annual race. "It's a family race, but we also have great competitors out there from weekend warriors to some serious athletes, and of course, the kids, who might be a combination of both of those things."
All about Family
Now in its 23rd year, this race is always about family, fitness and fun. The latest and greatest addition to this theme is the newly expanded "Family Contest" which will award not just one family team, but the top ten family teams with awards...but wait, there's even more! The top five families with the most registered members will walk away with a Christmas tree, a spiral ham, and gift certificates to Dunkin Donuts.
Feaster is proud of their Family Friendly Fees. Entries for the 5K and 5 mile will be $30, but for family members age 12 or younger, pre-entry is $15 and post entry is $20 (and on-line fees are waived for all participants). Have the kids join you, or have them run the Kid's Fun Run for $5.
So call Aunt Margaret and your cousin Joe and get everyone signed up no matter what their age. Register for any of the events within Feaster to be eligible for family awards; even walking will put you in the running for these terrific prizes. And of course, the smiles on the faces of everyone involved when you're done will be free of charge.

"We're capping the event this year to ensure its integrity," says Dave McGillivray, B.A.A. Boston Marathon Race Director, President of DMSE Sports and race director of the Eagle Tribune Feaster Five Road Race. "With 10,000 bodies out there we have a lot of people, but it's just the right amount for us to ensure the safety and fun for all of our runners and walkers which is ultimately what a race is all about." Yes, it is holiday participation!
