John Vecero III knew it was time for a change.
The Harrisburg, Pennsylvania native wanted to play around with his two young sons, but he was struggling to keep up. After spending his late teens in good physical condition, the 35-year-old found himself at an unhealthy weight of 272 pounds.
"I would tire easily and couldn't run around with them," he said. "I made up my mind that I wanted to be an active dad to my boys."
After being introduced to Active's Couch-to-5K app by his sister, Vecero decided to give it a try.
The results were life changing. With the help of the app, Vecero has dropped 50 pounds and four inches on his waist.
For his hard work and willingness to share his inspiring story, Vecero was chosen as the Couch-to-5K Member of the Month for September, 2014.
ACTIVE: What has your experience been like with the Couch-to-5K app?
VECERO: "The experience with Active's Couch-to-5K app has been nothing short of terrific. At the end of every day of the program, I felt like I had accomplished something. The program is challenging. At the end of every step, I would peek ahead to the next. Almost every time I would say to myself, 'There's no way.' Yet, I always accomplished it.
"What I like most about the app and what I've found to be most helpful are the features within the application. The GPS mapping of your route is a nice feature. The ability to share your accomplishments via social media and the ability to keep free runs are nice, too. For me, the best feature is the tracking of your distance and pace. It's exciting to be able to see your progress as you go through the program and to see how much faster you're getting as you approach the 5K distance."
