Both courses will start at AT&T Park and travel along the Embarcadero waterfront with the half marathon continuing through Pier 39, Fort Mason, and the historic North Beach neighborhoods.
In true Giants style the AT&T Giant race will also feature Runner's Night at the Park at the Friday, June 11 A's vs. Giants game. There will be also be a post-race tailgate and expo with several Giants personalities participating in the race festivities. Early bird registrants will receive a free ticket to Runner's Night with the opportunity to buy discounted tickets for friends and family while supplies last.
"To our knowledge, never before has a major half marathon race utilized a start/finish-line venue as spectacular as AT&T Park," said Stephen Revetria, Giants Enterprises' Vice President and General Manager. "We wanted to design an event that allows participants from around the country--and of course those in the vibrant endurance community right here in our backyard--to experience not only the amazing sights that San Francisco has to offer, but also gives them a once-in-a-lifetime experience inside the ballpark."
Evolve Sports CEO Keir J. Beadling is also excited to present this new race at such an exciting venue and believes the event will be part of athletes' race calendars year after year.
"Every summer we see professional baseball players on television performing their craft at a pristine, seemingly untouchable venue--the American ballpark," said Evolve's race director, J.T. Service. "What better way to reward the weekend warriors--the runners who train only for their own health, well-being, and personal challenge--than by allowing them to compete and finish in the same arena as those professional athletes? We're ecstatic to extend that opportunity to the running community."
Project Open Hand is the official non-profit partner of the 2010 race. Since 1985, Project Open Hand has been providing "meals with love" to people living with serious illnesses and seniors in San Francisco and Alameda Counties.
