Reaching over 42 participants, Cox Media partners with Family Health Centers of San Diego to recruit one of the largest teams to race in the EAS America’s Finest City Half Marathon & 5K.

Cox Communications is a longstanding supporter of Family Health Centers of San Diego, and for three months, Cox employees teamed up to train for the EAS America’s Finest City Half Marathon & 5K while raising funds to expand Family Health Centers of San Diego’s original clinic- Logan Heights Family Health Center.

“This experience has been amazing all around,” explained Liana Kerwood, team co-captain, who never thought they could motivate 50 employees, friends and family members to come together for a great cause. The team raised a total of $11,588, surpassing their goal of $10,000, which qualified the donation for the Family Health Centers Padres Challenge. The Padres matched Cox’s donation, representing a total of $23,176 raised for charity.

At the heart of this program are the employees, who dedicate themselves to competing and raising funds for their local community. “As each person challenged themselves to run/walk distances they never dreamt they could in the last three months, they also were astonished at the monetary support their friends and family have given them to help them reach their individual fundraising goals,” explained Kerwood.

Liana Kerwood, Stephanie Carey and Kelly McMackin lead the first annual team were excited to not only help get a team together to benefit a terrific non-profit, but also to provide the healthy benefits for each participant. “Through all the injuries, team runs, swapping training stories, team fundraising events and making new friends, we were proud to participate in the first annual Corporate Challenge,” Kerwood explains. “It has been rewarding to work on a common goal as we ‘Make Strides to Change Lives.’”

Team Cox Media is ready to launch their 2nd annual corporate charity team. They will be participating in the Corporate Challenge for the 2008 EAS America’s Finest City Half Marathon & 5K taking place on August 17, 2008.
