TOPIC: The challenges facing law enforcement just keep coming! Citizens and communities want more and more services with higher standards of performance and, at the same time, they are less willing to pay more in taxes and fees resulting in ever tightening budgets. Similarly, generational changes in work ethic and career dedication make the job of leadership even more daunting. These, and numerous other factors, make surviving and ultimately thriving as a manager/supervisor an interesting challenge. Day One: TRENDS IN SOCIETY IMPACTING LAW ENFORCEMENT? This workshop will identify trends that are impacting leaders; examine the changing world of law enforcement leaders; and offers solutions for building stronger teams that are capable of surviving and even thriving in hard times. ? Trends in society and the workforce that are reshaping the roles of public servants ? Changes that have impacted our lives and how those changes affect us ? Time management and expanding the boundaries of delegation ? Stress and coping skills for yourself and your team ? Strategic visioning and planning Day Two: IMPROVING MORALE?. Command officers have all heard from time to time the inevitable complaint: ?morale is low? and ?People aren?t happy?. The implicit assumption is that it is your job to fix it, to raise my morale, and to make me happy. This workshop explores the causes and challenges and implications of low police officer morale and approaches for addressing this issue. Finally the course addresses circumstances in which command action in dealing with low morale is probably not appropriate. If you are spending the majority of your time, energy and frustration on your least productive and most trouble causing employees, then you will not want to miss this workshop. You will learn what games that are actually being played and why problem employees are motivated to play these games. You will also learn how to turn many of the negatives into positives for your team. In addition, you will learn: ? How to strengthen your team in spite of the influences of problem employees. ? How to interpret body language and other key communication concepts. ? How to regain your serenity in the middle of the problem child?s game.
