What's Included

Have fun while learning about electronics as you build your own robot! We’ll start with the basics using the Arduino platform to learn the fundamentals. Before you can say “WALL-E” you’ll be building some very cool electronic gadgets that you can keep. For the grand finale, we’ll take a trip to the NC Museum of Natural Sciences and go behind the scenes at the Visual World Laboratory. There you’ll build your very own autonomous robot, just like your very own “CHIP.” Your robot will move around your room and never (well, almost never) run into anything. You will leave the camp with components and instructions to enable you to continue building on your own. All of the projects you build, are yours to keep. Perhaps most importantly, you will be on your way to developing real world knowledge that could become a foundation for a very exciting career in electronics, robotics or engineering. The only pre-requisite is a willingness to learn. Fred Haas is originally from Toledo, OH and holds a B.S. in microbiology from Bowling Green State University. Mr. Haas has more than 10 years of experience teaching middle school science and math in both public and independent schools. He taught robotics in North Carolina and California and coached competitive robotics teams at the middle school and high school level. Mr. Haas currently teaches enrichment courses in robotics and rockets at Centennial Magnet Middle School where he is an 8th grade science teacher.
