The Run for the Roses, now in its 34th year, is the area’s oldest continuous run road race. In 2013 over 600 runners and walkers registered for the event. Brett Howell led all finishers in the 5K with a 16:23 clocking. Allie Bigelow won the women’s competition in 18:36. The Run for the Roses records at the Dix Hill course are held by Howell (16:09) and Catherine Seaton (17:51).Both were set in 2012
Race Day Schedule
Late entrants can register and pre-registered entrants can pick up their packets on race day beginning at 12:45 pm. The 5K starts at 2 pm, and the Children's runs start at 3 pm.

Awards - Individual Competition
In the 5K individual competition, awards will be presented to the first three males overall, to the first three females overall, to the first three masters of each sex overall, and to the top three finishers in each of the following age groups: (both sexes) 12-under, 13-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79 and 80-over.
Awards - Couples Competition
In the couples competition, awards will be given to the top three couples overall with the lowest combined times.
The children’s runs will begin at 3 pm. There will be a 100-meter run for children 6 and under and a ¼ mile run for those ages 6-10. Medals will be given to all finishers in the children’s run. Children will register for the runs on race day.
The entry fee is $20 for the 5K, if registered by November 30, $25 from December 1- January 31, and $30 thereafter up to and including race day. Thel entry fee for those ages 18 and younger is $18 with no late fee. The fee includes a t-shirts to all those who enter by January 31There also will be a couple’s competition and a pump ‘n run competition. There is no fee for the couple’s competition, but there is a $5 fee for the Pump ‘n Run – payable on race day.
Second Empire Grand Prix
The Run for the Roses is also the second event in the ten-race Second Empire Spring 2014 Grand Prix Series. Runners who participate in these races accumulate points and are awarded money and prizes at an awards banquet held at the Second Empire Restaurant at the conclusion of the Series. Pet Food Donations
On race day, the race will be collecting pet food donations for local shelter and rescue groups. In 2012 over 800 lbs was donated.
