What's Included

Young explorers will delve into the watery world of Tryon Creek! In small groups that foster flexibility and one-on-one attention, campers will discover the rich diversity of species in Tryon Creek State Natural Area, with special attention given to the many creatures that live in the water. Do crawdads really swim backwards? How do beavers stay dry in the water? Are there fish in the creek? Campers will get to do some experiments to see how water helps the forest and will discover if the creek is a healthy habitat. Activities include hiking, stories, songs, games, handling animal pelts and bones, science explorations and crafts. (Please note that due to the sensitive habitat along the creek, activities will take place along the trails, on the bridges and in the classroom, not at the edge of the creek.)
