In March of 1868, John Muir arrived in San Francisco and immediately set out by foot to discover the wonders of the Sierra Nevada for the first time. That historic journey led to the creation of Yosemite National Park.145 years later, Restore Hetch Hetchy (RHH) invites you to mount your bike and replicate Muir’s historic journey while raising funds and awareness for the campaign to bring his beloved Hetch Hetchy Valley back to life. Join 30 dedicated riders and crew as they set out for Yosemite from the Bay Area to launch the second annual Muir’s Ride!THE EVENTMuir’s Ride, May 15 to 18, 2014 will follow a challenging but beautiful route from Pleasanton, California over the coast range, across the San Joaquin Valley, through the Sierra Foothills where it will end at the grand entrance to Yosemite Valley’s twin in Yosemite National Park: Hetch Hetchy Valley. This 4-day ride will be fully supported by a professional bike event company (CCSD), allowing time to enjoy a cross-section of California, navigate some awesome and remote back roads and cruise a spectacular downhill run to the gates of Hetch Hetchy and Yosemite National Park. "Entering Yosemite by the quiet countrysides, mountainscapes, and the vistas. It was all so beautiful!"The finish features a Restoration Festival, which is an ideal opportunity for those with non-cycling partners or families to join together for a unified purpose and come together to celebrate individual accomplishments for the final day of the event.THE CHALLENGEIn order to participate, each rider must reach out to family, friends, coworkers, and corporate partners to raise awareness and funds for Restore Hetch Hetchy. The minimum fundraising goal is $1400. The $100 registration fee will be applied to that goal. Once you have surpassed your fundraising goal, your only job is to eat, sleep and ride in the shadow of John Muir's legacy. Of course, raising additional funds beyond the minimum is highly encouraged!
