This class teaches lifeguarding skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. This class will certify the participant for 1 year in Starguard lifeguard training and American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) basic first aid and CPR/AED training. Anyone interested in applying to become a lifeguard must first be certified. All candidates must pass a pre-skills test consisting of 300 yards of continuous swimming using either freestyle or breaststroke, treading water for one minute without hands and a 10 pound brick retrieval in deep water. If assistance is required on any stroke or skill, please see the instructor prior to the first day of class." Through the use of step-by-step progressions are learning the basic skills of gymnastics including handstands, cartwheels and backward rolls. Our curriculum encompasses a wide spectrum of tumbling skills, apparatus skills, static poses and loco motor movements. The Rising Stars students are provided with an array of apparatus circuit work that keeps everyone engaged in activity. Learning new skills is such fun!
