Running can be an extremely rewarding activity. People run for many reasons such as training for fitness, training for work, training for running or athletics or simply running for fun. Unfortunately for some whilst running can be used to improve one?s health, it is often the cause of injury and discomfort such as shin splints. This can be due to a great number of factors, not least of which is a poor or inefficient technique. A runner should be able to run efficiently with minimum stress on the body, running as a general rule should not cause discomfort or pain. The main aim of the class is: ?Awareness of ones running technique ?Identify possible technique improvements ?Learn and experience new running techniques ?Learn and experience new running drills Method In this class we aim to strip running back to the basics. Each participate will be videoed running at the beginning of the class, and their technique will be displayed to the class for them to see and learn about better ways to be running. At the completion of each class we will do the same thing to demonstrate each individuals improvement. It is done in an encouraging environment in a non-formal way to prevent people feeling scrutinized. The class is run on one day for 4 1/2 hours with a short break after 2 hours.
