Introduce Yoga to Kids with a Beautifully Illustrated Book

A few pages later, the girl is on a mountain standing in tadasana (mountain pose) with the words "I am Yoga" written above.

Each page has a different dominating, bright color. Greens fill the image of the girl in vrksasana (tree pose) among trees. Yellow splashes the page of the girl in ustrasana (camel pose) among pyramids and the sun.

Essentially, this book shows a young girl grounding herself and finding peace as she goes through a yoga flow. She eventually finds herself in savasana lying on a beach and discovering rest.

Verde, also the author of children's books The Museum and You and Me, explains to ACTIVE that the reason she set out to make this book was pretty simple.

"As a children's mindfulness and yoga teacher and children's author, writing a kid's yoga story felt like a natural extension of what I do," she says. "I am fortunate to witness firsthand how yoga makes children feel in their body and their minds. Writing this story, I Am Yoga, was a way to express the transformative power of all that yoga encompasses."

For parents who aren't yogis, Verde says this book is still something they should consider sharing with their children.

"I Am Yoga is an interactive way to tap in to all that yoga has to offer. Parents who share this story with their families are giving their children tools to strengthen their bodies, calm their minds, and use their imagination to create balance in their busy lives, all the while having lots of fun looking at the gorgeous illustrations and posing like a flower or a boat or even a tree," she says. "Yoga itself offers children (and adults) a way to breathe deeply, find focus, connect to their bodies, and express and regulate their own emotions. I Am Yoga is a book that families can read, 'do' and enjoy together."
