Brief Description
The 6th Annual Race for Breath is a 5K Run/Walk, 1 Mile Run/Walk, and Kid's Fun Run event is planned for November 7, 2009 to benefit Lung Cancer awareness and research. The run will provide businesses and individuals of the Hampton Roads community an opportunity to help Race for Breath and the 1 million people that will be diagnosed with lung cancer this year.
The Lung Cancer Alliance
Proceeds of this event benefit The Lung Cancer Alliance, the only national non-profit organization dedicated solely to advocating for people living with lung cancer or at risk for the disease.
TEAMS
Friends, families and co-workers are encouraged to form teams and participate in the race together. Teams can honor loved ones who have battled lung cancer, represent schools or neighborhoods or simply provide a fun and healthy way to socialize, while supporting a great cause. A team consists of 5 or more people. All team members must register PRIOR to November 5, 2009. A Team Award will be given to the team with the MOST REGISTERED MEMBERS!
Awards
Awards for the 5K Run will be presented after the race to the:
* top three male and top three female cancer survivors overall
* top three male and top three female finishers overall
* top three male and female finishers in the age groups listed below:
19 and under; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69 and 70 and over. Awards for the 5K Walk will be presented to the:* top three male and top three female overall finishers* top three masters (30 and over) male and female finishers
*Special Awards
Awards will be given to the top participants that go the extra mile to raise lung cancer awareness by collecting pledges.A $100 gift certificate to Running, etc. will be given to the overall top male and female runners. A 1 year Membership to Gold's Gym Chesapeake will be given as an award to the winner of the Middle of the Pack.
Raffle
We will have lots of exciting items to raffle off. Proceeds to benefit LCA. *Raffle entry $1 each.
Parking
Directions and Parking
From Interstate 64:
Take 264 East to the Virginia Beach oceanfront (which ends at Atlantic Avenue). Turn left on Pacific Avenue (one street before Atlantic Avenue) and continue to 24th street. Free parking is throughout the oceanfront at this time of year; there is also free parking at the 25th street parking lot. Plan to arrive prior to 9:00 a.m. to allow plenty of time to park!
Race Packet Pickup
We strongly encourage participants to pick up race packets on the two days listed below prior to the race at Running, etc. from 3:00-7:00 p.m. Running, etc. is located in the 1707 Colley Ave., NorVa 23517 (Thursday, Nov. 5th) and 1940 Laskin Rd. #308, VaBch 23454 (Friday, Nov. 6th). Packet pick-up will be available the morning of the race. Registration opens at 7:30 a.m. and ENDS promptly at 8:45 a.m. The event will begin at 9 a.m.
