Description

The Battle of Hurtgen Forest was fought between the US 1st Army, under the command of General Courtney Hodges, and the German 275th and 353rd Infantry Divisions, led by General Hans Schmidt, from September 19, 1944, to December 15, 1944, during World War II.
This inconclusive battle that had no victor took place in the Hurtgen Forest (Hürtgenwald), along the border between Germany and Belgium, in the southwest corner of the German federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
