The 007 Water Swim is a swim race around the Oracabessa Bay that starts and finishes at the legendary James Bond Beach, neighbor to the estate where Ian Fleming penned several of his James Bond novels, on the north coast of Jamaica.
The first annual 007 Open Water Swim Race will be held on June 29th, 2013. The race course is 1.1 miles long through the sparkling blue Caribbean Sea in the protected area of the Oracabessa Bay Fish Sanctuary. All proceeds from the event go toward the Oracabessa Foundation, which is a non-profit community organization that strives to be a catalyst for the sustainable development of Oracabessa and its environs. Its main areas of focus are environment, education, sport and entrepreneurship. Read more at: www.oracabessafoundation.org. All ages and abilities are welcome. The race will start with a dash into the bay from James Bond Beach, and with a race to the finish out of the water after the swimmer has made a tour of the fish sanctuary. Kayaks and fishermen boats will be in the water to assist in any emergency, and the course will be free of any other motorized craft. The course will take swimmers over reef full of fish and other sea life, and under sea birds cruising on the Caribbean breeze. After the race, swimmers will get to relax and hang out at the famous James Bond Beach. All of this in support of a good cause, you won’t want to miss it!
