A. Yes, all participants must wear marine approved lifejackets while they are in the watercraft. Q. Do we need a whistle or sound making device? A. Yes, Safety regulations require that all boaters have a whistle or sound making device to alert help if they are in trouble. Q. Are there rules or laws we need to be aware of while on the water? A. Yes, you will be racing in both Idaho and Washington State water and will be expected to comply with all state and local boater safety laws. Yes, according to Idaho state law there is a $7.00 Invasive Species Permits that will need to be purchased for all watercraft. These can be purchased at the ACE hardware in Oldtown, ID just across from the Rotary Park. Q. Are we required to wear a helmet while biking? A. Washington State law requires that anyone who is on a bike must wear a helmet. Q. Is there a minimum age requirement? A. Due to the nature of the race we are only allowing participants who are 15 years or older. Q. Can more than one person share a kayak? A. Participants can choose to kayak tandem, however, we do not have a tandem bracket and they will not be eligible for an award. Q. Do we need to sign a release of liability? A. All participants must sign the liability waiver before they will be allowed to participate. Q. How long is the race? A. It is approximately an eight mile race; six miles on the bike and two miles on the river. Q. Are there awards for placing or winning? A. First, Second and Third place will receive a medal, similar to an Olympic medal. Q. Are there age brackets or race divisions? A. We have six divisions: Women’s Open (ages 15 to 39) Men’s Open (ages 15 to 39) Women’s Master (ages 40 and up) Men’s Master (ages 40 and up) Youth Team Q. What is the route? A. Starting at Rotary Park in Oldtown, Idaho, you will Kayak down and back around Kelly Island (Boy Scout Island). You will then bike from Rotary Park to Pioneer Park and Back to Rotary Park for the finish.
