Off to Independence, MO to learn about the life and times of our Harry S. Truman. Here you?ll see how an average farm boy became our 33rd President. We will then head to the 1859 Jail and Marshal?s Home. This Jackson County jail once held the legendary Jesse James? brother Frank James. Take a tour through the jail as well as the beautifully decorated Marshal?s home where the wife and children of the Marshal lived. We will then have lunch at The Court House Exhange some down-home food and some of the best sandwiches in town. Afterwards, we will wrap up our day at the Vaile Mansion, built in 1881 by local entrepreneur and U.S. mail contractor Harvey Merrick Vaile. According to Architect magazine, this ornate 30-room mansion is one of the finest examples of Second-Empire Victorian architecture in the country. Colorful ceiling murals, lavish furnishings, hand-painted murals and whimsical detailing make this home a must see.
