TRIP DESCRIPTION Explore the hidden treasures of the long-vanished Cretaceous Wyoming shoreline with our enthusiastic paleontologist John Hankla! Students will be mesmerized by John's magnetic teaching style and playful excitement. Imagine finding teeth from a T. Rex or shark, stumbling across a Triceratops horn and most definitely seeing large bones still imbedded in the rock! This is the trip where it will probably happen. Our destination is a place called Paleo Park north of Lusk, Wyoming. The last part of the trip will be spent at Vedauwoo Campground, 15 miles east of Laramie with an exciting day of top rope rock climbing, guided by The Women's Wilderness Institute! DETAILS - This is a coed trip - For students completing grades 5-9 in spring 2013 - A detailed gear list and itinerary will be emailed in late spring. - Paleo Park is 25 miles off the highway and 60 miles away from the nearest town of Lusk, WY. - Students must provide comfortable clothing, sturdy hiking boots, rain gear, sleeping bag, pad, 2-3 person low-profile tent and footprint (if possible). -Trip will depart from and return to Boulder Friends School.

Our wilderness journeys offer students plenty of opportunities to learn about outdoor science topics and experience exciting age appropriate adventures such as whitewater rafting, climbing and hiking. Wilderness skills along with community building are inherent in our trips. Students sleep in tents, learn to cook outdoors, practice "leave no trace" travel and visit some of the most amazing areas in Colorado and Wyoming.
